REDCOAT REUNION 2009 and Themed-Break - MINEHEAD

Wouldn't it be FANTASTIC if you went to BUTLINS MINEHEAD, walked into one of the original venues, and were transported back to the Seventies? Well that's exactly what will happen, if you come to the 2009 REDCOAT REUNION.
We've actually hired the whole of the CRAZY HORSE SALOON for the full week - for our exclusive use, and we're going to run it as if it were the seventies, with good measures of the fifties, sixties, and eighties thrown in.
The programme will be run by actual former-Redcoats, who will be on duty throughout the week to organise your favourite Games, Competitions, and Shows.
Go to this link to find details of how you can take part in this unique, nostalgic event.

Postby frank worrall » Fri Oct 24, 2008 9:12 pm

A great chance to relive a dream, weve all done it relived in our dreams those happy days we had in the past. All the staff and campers have had them, but thought those days were long gone, but A.J. and his helpers are giving us the chance to relive them again, see you there.

Redcoat reunion party - Minehead 2009

Postby ukstande » Wed Nov 12, 2008 9:34 pm

Hi to all of you redcoats past & present, from camps and hotels!

Let's make this week in Minehead a wonderful way to reminisce, catch up with old friends and make some new ones whilst having a great time with lots of fun. I'm not sure I'll know many people at the reunion but I don't mind because I just want to have fun and share my experiences of working at Butlins with others who will understand what I'm talking about.

I personally have worked as redcoat at Filey, Clacton, Blackpool, Brighton and Margate. I did other jobs at Llandudno, Scarborough and Area Office, Brighton. Come on...take that step and reserve your place for what promises to be a really great event.

REDCOAT REUNION LATEST – 17 January 2009

Postby Basilbrush » Sat Jan 17, 2009 4:27 pm

Hello Butlins' Fans!
With Christmas over, bookings are now coming in thick-and-fast for the REDCOAT REUNION at Minehead (18-25 May). I’m delighted to announce that, among them, are DAVE & TINA SIMPSON. David’s history goes back, would you believe, to Skegness 1947, and lasted many a year – including several as a very popular Ents. Manager. Tina started as a Redcoat Dancer at Skegness in 1962, and went on to work at Filey, Blackpool and Ayr. I’m sure many more of you will be thrilled to know they are joining us.
For those of you who haven’t yet booked, you’ve still got 2 weeks to take advantage of the DISCOUNT OF £10 - if you pay by 31st January. Go to this link to fill in the Booking Form.
http://www.redcoatsreunited.com/09booking.html
We are currently negotiating with a huge name-act, to make an appearance, but that will only be viable when we get the numbers required. So get booking, then contact as many friends, family, and former staff as you can, and get them to come along. The more people who attend, the more attractions we can put on the Programme.
It won’t be long now!

There goes another light.

Postby frank worrall » Wed Feb 04, 2009 5:53 pm

Yes another light turned out at the end of a very dark tunnel, someone had to say something so I guess thats me. I feel so sorry for A.J. after all the hard work he has put in, and now having to cancel the reunion due to lack of numbers, certainly the idea was brilliant, as with all good ideas it needs good support, perhaps after this recession ends, the idea can be revised again. Thanks A.J. again for all the work you put in for those of us who were going.

I too am sorry that AJ had to pull the plug on the Minehead Reunion, from my experience in the organising of the first two forum get togethers on that "other site" there are a lot more sayers than do'ers.

Everyone's up for the idea at the start but then in reality things change, getting the time off work, even getting someone to feed the cat, people even back out because it's to far. Unfortunately AJ had such big plans he needed to hire a venue and that costs money. I can't blame him for canceling the event owing to lack of support as he could of been hit with a large bill if numbers hadn't picked up.

We found that a lot of members left it to the last minute to book for our little get togethers. AJ couldn't take this chance. Also it being over a Bank holiday weekend the camp would be booked up long before.

I hope he gives it another go, it appears that others are offering support in the organising. It's a pity Bourne won't adopt the idea, I'm sure the bar takings from events that are costing them very little to put on would more than make up for the cost of the venue, a venue that is not in use most of the day.
